More suggestions for finding cheap flights to Belfast Any

Although the range of flights to and from Belfast has expanded greatly in recent years, there is always going to be a certain amount of leakage to Dublin. The Irish Republic's capital has a much broader network of flights to the USA, as well as a rapidly expanding network of cheap flights to mainland Europe, especially now that Ryanair have finally resolved their local difficulties and announced a raft of new routes for 2006.

Ryanair had also cut back on their flights to Londonderry, although now that the airport has upgraded its facilities, new routes have also been brought in here. The major player offering cheap flights at Belfast is still Easyjet, who initially concentrated their growth on the substantial UK domestic market. In recent years, Easyjet have opened up new routes from Belfast to popular European destinations such as Prague and Málaga, with Jet2 joining in to offer further competition.

In 2005, Belfast also witnessed substantial development in its long-haul flights network, with Continental Airlines starting daily flights to New York. Zoom Airlines also started offering new cheap flights to Canada, with the Toronto route having recently been upgraded to operate year-round. Meanwhile, further growth in the domestic market has come courtesy of Easyjet's new flights between Belfast and Inverness.

At the same time, Flybe maintain a strong presence at Belfast City airport. British Airways may have long since pulled out from offering flights from London to Belfast, but BMI still offer regular shuttle flights from Heathrow to Belfast City. BA Connect have recently confirmed the return of their flights from Birmingham to Belfast - perhaps a direct response to Flybe's launch of Manchester to Belfast flights.

The one thing that Belfast still lacks is a decent network airline connection to a major European hub - although major airlines such as Air France and Lufthansa have had to make significant cutbacks in recent years in the face of no-frills competition, there must still be strong demand for a wider range of onward connections from Belfast.
