Auckland is New Zealand’s biggest city and main transportation centre. The vast distance between the UK and New Zealand, combined with a relatively small number of lucrative business passengers travelling on flights from London to Auckland, contributed to British Airways withdrawing from this route many years ago. Although Air New Zealand are the only carrier to offer "direct" (ie no change of plane) flights to Auckland, numerous other options for getting there are available via various other hubs cities, both in Asia and the USA. See also our general notes about finding flights to New Zealand. If you're based near London or Manchester (Singapore Airlines and Malaysia Airlines offer connecting flights to Auckland from both cities), it should be perfectly possible to reach Auckland in one-stop, whereas flights from other UK regional airports are more likely to require two or more changes. Considering the huge distances involved, we'd advise trying to break your journey into roughly equal portions. The option of flying with Emirates via Dubai certainly offers the most attractive prospect – for example, Glasgow to Dubai to Singapore to Auckland has to be infinitely preferable, when compared with Glasgow to London Heathrow (change of terminals) to Los Angeles (dealing with US officialdom) to Auckland!
