Providence is a stop on Amtrak's ACELA (relatively) high-speed train link between Boston and New York. Although Providence is closer to Boston, there are many more flights available to New York from the UK. The easiest transfer from plane to train is at
New York 's Newark Airport, from where a direct train can be taken to Providence . Note that if you are transferring to Providence through Boston, we would suggest taking a taxi between Boston Logan Airport and Boston South station, from where Amtrak services depart. Shuttle buses also operate from South station, but don't be fooled by local transit authority MBTA's attempts to pass off the "Silver Line" between Boston Airport and South station as a rail link - it isn't. The Silver Line is the "BRT" (Bass Rapid Transit) route between the city centre and Boston Airport, and is really no different to traveling along the road routes in
London, except that traffic violations in London are better enforced! A few charter flights operate to Puerto Vallarta from the UK, but on a much less regular basis than they do to Cancun on the east coast. There are no
direct flights from the UK to San Jose in Costa Rica. Spanish national airline Iberia offer regular flights there via
Madrid, with a few other European leisure airlines also offering flights to San Jose from cities such as
Amsterdam and
Frankfurt. Generally, you will find much better links with San Jose via the
USA, with
Atlanta and
New York additionally offering a good range of inward flights from the UK.
