James Says

There are no direct flights to Milwaukee from the UK, Ireland, or any other airport in Europe. This means that wherever you are travelling from you will have to take a connecting flight to reach Milwaukee. However, Milwaukee is a rare example of a US city outside of the northeast corridor which is often easier to reach by taking a connecting train or bus service than it is by taking a connecting flight. Milwaukee airport sits just 70 miles north of Chicago, and is often used by Illinois residents as an alternative third airport for Chicago. Below, we have compared the prices on flights to Milwaukee, with the flight/train option via Chicago, and in nearly all cases transferring through Chicago works out as better value, especially if you have light baggage, as you will need to transfer between the Chicago Metro [http://www.transitchicago.com/] and Amtrak [http://www.amtrak.com/] train services at Union Station in Chicago.

Transfers to Milwaukee by train from Chicago There are seven trains a day between Chicago Union Station and Milwaukee, with a journey time of around an hour and a half. Ironically, the train will also take you right past Milwaukee airport on the way to downtown Milwaukee. The train will cost $22 each way - add another $2.25 and around three quarters of an hour for the Metro transfer from Chicago O'Hare airport (Blue Line, alight at Clinton station and walk two blocks north to reach Union Station). This gives a return ticket price between O'Hare airport and downtown Milwaukee of $48 50 per person, which works out at around £33. Note that although there is a suburban rail station, called O'Hare Transfer, near the airport, services from here into central Chicago are very infrequent, as they are primarily aimed around serving rush hour commuters.
