SAS Scandinavian Airlines, the leading carrier to Scandinavia, will commence services from Newcastle International to Copenhagen during October 2004. The service is expected to be daily and will be the only direct service from Newcastle to Copenhagen.

SAS General Manager UK and Ireland Lars-Ove Filipson said: "We are delighted to be returning to Newcastle again and providing the North east business community with an essential link via our Copenhagen hub to the rest of Scandinavia, the Baltics, Russia and the Far East. Copenhagen is also one of Scandinavia's most beautiful cities and now is only a short hop away for those looking for a wonderful weekend break. "

John Parkin, Chief Executive of Newcastle International Airport commented: "We are delighted that Scandinavian Airlines has chosen Newcastle International as one of the new destinations to be served from its expanded Copenhagen base. This further strengthens our portfolio of scheduled carriers and ensures the continuation of a very popular service when easyJet withdraw from the route later this year.

"Not only will this route continue to offer our passengers direct services to Copenhagen, it will also open up exciting onward connections from the Danish capital to destinations across the world. Scandinavian Airlines has an excellent reputation for quality and we look forward to working with them."

The flights will be operated by Cimber Air aircraft and crew under an SAS codeshare agreement. Cimber Air is a Danish subsidiary of SAS. The airline will use CRJ regional jets, seating 48 people.
