BA named “most improved” brand

British Airways (BA) has been rated the most improved brand of 2011 in YouGov's Brand Index.

The YouGov poll asked British consumers how they rated brands in terms of impression, quality, value, reputation, satisfaction and whether they would recommend them to others.

BA's stirring "To fly. To serve" television advertising campaign combined with a huge investment in customer service are thought to have propelled the airline back into favour following the double whammy of strike action and disruption from the Icelandic volcano in 2010.

I'm glad to hear it! I once had to endure Virgin Atlantic on a flight to New York - never again! BA are so much better in all respects - better aircraft, better cabin crew, and when it comes to the USA, their route network is, well - streets ahead!

Wow Kerry, strong stuff. You don't happen to have shares in BA do you? Only joking - I certainly agree with you about BA's network of flights to the USA. I actually think the service standards between the two airlines are fairly similar.

Well Kerry, if I'm allowed to declare bias, I would say I slightly prefer BA too, but I certainly have nothing against Virgin, I just think they are a bit over-hyped. They do at least use their Airbus A340s on a lot of their American routes. I've flown with them twice recently to Barbados, and I think their 747-400s can be a bit tatty.

Either way, I think BA and Virgin are well ahead of their US counterparts, although I still appreciate the direct link United-Continental offer from Birmingham.
