I recently flew from Cardiff to Antalya, Turkey in the daytime. For 5 hours I looked out of the window and could only guess what part of the world I was flying over. The pilot only once gave us a clue - "On the left hand side, you will see Saltzburg and then the Alps.
I'm flying from Cardiff to Sharm El sheikh soon - I can easily draw a straight line between the two and "guestimate" by the time taken, but is there any I can find the normal flight routes between two places?

  I'm afraid I just prefer looking out the window and working it out, but I am a maps obsessive, that goes with the territory, needless to say! I have taken paper maps onto flights before, but my Times World Atlas doesn't quite fit as hand luggage!
  
  The best online site I can think of is Flight Aware - the terrain is pretty basic, but it does give you a good idea of the routing flights take if you enter the flight number. Otherwise, there is no harm in skimming over the likely route on Google Maps and looking for highlights from that.

A great map, and really useful guidance on flights to Turkey - but isn't Turkey really in Asia?

I'm just being pedantic, just curious about your logic.

  Sure - Turkey is in both Europe and Asia, with the divide being the Bosphorus Strait, which runs through Istanbul. If we wanted to effectively split Turkey in two, then we'd also have to completely divide our flights to Istanbul page, as it Ataturk Airport is in Europe, but Sabiha Gokcen is in Asia.
  
  Also, there are routes to Turkey from a whole host of UK airports - it is easy for us to put all of these on one map which covers all Turkey flights. If we included it as part of Asia, it would make that map incredibly cluttered. So I think it's much easier to keep the routes all-in-one.
