  I'm sure I've seen flights to Bern from Birmingham before, although I'm not sure if it was during the ski season?
  
  I like to go walking around Interlaken in the summer, when a lot of the cheap routes to Geneva have gone because they only operate during the ski season. The other problem now is that the transfers on SBB have got so expensive - reliability good, rip-off-ability - much more! I'd rather have our slightly less reliable British trains, at least they are cheap. Oh, hang on a minute!

    Your best bet for year round flights to Bern is London City. You can book cheap train tickets in Switzerland, but only two weeks in advance, and then only if you get the right offer! If you've been to Switzerland before, you've probably already enjoyed the line between Geneva and Bern / Zurich several times, so why waste money on that? Instead, enjoy the fantastic views from City, be glad you are off on a walking holiday when all the other Suits are getting their laptops out, and enjoy the stunning views as you come into Belp airport!
    
    You can then travel around the Jungfrau region on a local train pass - my favourite excursion is taking the cable car up to Schiltorn and walking down - but in that part of the world you are never short of breathtaking places to visit!
