    Just to save money, no, because you still have to pay the ferry fare. As a way of seeing two great Baltic cities, absolutely - I'd fly in to Tallinn, take the ferry to Helsinki and then fly out from there, as HEL is a much nicer airport.

  Map is little bit misleading to think that Tampere would be about midway from Turku to Helsinki, even the truth is that distance is about the same.
  
  What you would have won by choosing Tampere's better rail link to Helsinki, you loose in flight time.
  
  From 4th of June, Finnish low-cost bus operator Onnibus will serve bus connection from Turku Airport to Helsinki which will be very useful and cheap, because if you order online early enough prices will start from € 3.
  
  Bad news is that Onnibus has their website only in Finnish language. It's worth to try though.

    Thankyou that is excellent information. Our maps are always estimates, rather than stricit intepretations as they use a grid structure to keep the lines neat. I'll take another look and if it could do with a shifting I will do that. We will eventually produce surface maps which will show the different rail / bus options.

      Well it's about right if the distances would shape euquilateral triangle. Each of these cities have also rail link between each others, so you can start and end your trip from any of these cities and go circle.

        Yes I agree - that is about as close as you can get to an equilateral triangle between three cities, both in terms of distance and journey time!

          Tampere has been moved about 100km to the north - I hope that is better for you, and that the good citizens of Tampere don't notice the upheaval too much :)

  I just want to share new holiday destination in Finland. Air Åland will open affordable flights between Mariehamn the capital of autonomous archipelago region in South-West Finland, and so that flights will be well synced with Ryanair flights.
  
  Åland islands are perfect for peaceful summer holiday destination, where you can enjoy the nature and forget your rush and stress. ;)
  
  You can either fly Turku - Marienhamn,
  or take a trip on ferry Turku - Marienhamn or Stockholm - Marienhamn,
  , or combine Turku - Marienhamn - Stockholm
  
  The flights should be available from 2 April.

    JS, you are welcome to keep feeding us as much info as you want! However, our route info is set up just to show the direct routes from the UK. As it happens, I have been through Mariehamn, and I agree with your suggestion! I only called through briefly on the Stockholm - Helsinki ferry, which at €36 was the travel bargain of the century! Any time I've looked at overnight ferries ex-UK, I've been quoted £300+!

      Ferries between Finland and Sweden are quite affordable, on summer if you take lousiest cabin ( or in some cases traveling without cabin is allowed ), you may travel even as cheap as €10. That's very good opportunity that back bag travelers should check out.
