How come most of the flights to Ljubljana operate during the summer - isn't there much more demand during the ski season?

There are lots of places in Europe that do well out of summer tourism, and Slovenia is one of those places too. I think easyJet's year-round flights to Ljubljana from Stansted are still a good bet. Remember that Slovenia is one of Europe's smaller countries, and the population of beyond is less than 300,000, so in that respect it does well to get the routes it has.
There are still a few options for connecting flights to Ljubljana via various other European hubs. Geographically, there are also quite a few other airports near Slovenia's borders, but to take advantage of its proximity, your best bet is to get a hire car -- Trieste in Italy for example may be right on the Slovenian border, but it will still take a good four and half hours to get from there to Ljubljana by train.
