Flight summary
Nepal is not the easiest place to get to, which might explain why so many British school leavers head here in a bid to escape their parents! National airline Royal Air Nepal has had flights from both London and Frankfurt to Kathmandu in the past, but these are not currently operating.
Quick Facts

James Says
The best flight connections are generally via cities in the Arabian gulf, such as Bahrain and Dubai. Another option is to fly to neighbouring India, with many travellers combining the two countries as part of the same trip.
Mark Says
The terrain in Nepal is extremely mountainous, yet the country lacks the financial resources to develop a significant transport infrastructure. Many parts of the country can be reached more easily by taking internal flights from Kathmandu.
Outside the capital, the airports in Nepal tend to be limited in their facilities, with the scarcity of flat land ensuring that many have runways which are too short to support large jet aircraft. This makes taking flights within Nepal an extremely exhilarating experience (but still much safer than taking the winding mountain roads). Lukla is particularly well known for its steep approach.
Because most flights within Nepal are operated with smaller turboprop aircraft, frequencies tend to be much higher than they would be if larger jets were used. Biratnagar, Lukla and Pokhara in particular all have at least five onward daily connections from Kathmandu.
