Destination summary

A perennial destination of choice for left-leaning students on gap years and stray Manic Street Preachers, Cuba sits off the coast of Florida - and just south west of the Bahamas (so that's the weather sorted, then).

I flew to Cayo Coco in Cuba a few years ago and it was a very straightforward experience. Because the airport only serves this one resort, and the area is for tourists only, it meant that our flight actually left nearly an hour early! We also took advantage of an internal flight from Cayo Coco to Havana which was a very interesting experience!

I keep meaning to go to Havana before Fidel dies and the Americans come in and "modernize" the place. Flights to Havana with Virgin always seem too expensive. Does anyone know what Cubana are like? The thought of flying with a Communist state run airline doesn't fill me with joy!

Pompey, you really should have re-read that post before sending it - or as my Latin teacher used to say "engage brain before opening mouth". You want to experience Communism, but you don't want to fly there on a Communist airline?

You might aswell just fly there with Virgin and lock yourself in your all-inclusive hotel room for the week. After all, when it comes to potty ideas, Branson isn't short of a few of them himself!
