The availability of flights from the UK to Riyadh has been hampered by heightened security concerns in Saudi Arabia , forcing British Airways to suspend their London - Riyadh route for a number of year. Heathrow rivals BMI replaced them, joining established airline Saudi Arabian Airlines, and in 2009 BA resumed their Riyadh flights.Because of a lack of tourism in Saudi Arabia (it is virtually impossible to get tourist visas), flights to Riyadh tend to attract a hefty premium compared to more open Gulf cities such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Muscat.
