Zoom were the first airline to have a crack at selling no-frills transatlantic flights direct to the public. Zoom currently operate cheap flights to Canada from London Gatwick and several other UK regional airports, including Belfast International, Cardiff, Glasgow and Manchester. Zoom's most popular destination is Toronto, but the airline also boasts flights to several other destinations in Canada.

The lead-in price for Zoom's Canada flights is certainly very attractive, with prices typically starting from £226 each way (including taxes and charges), but the cost of these flights tends to rise sharply in summer. Zoom operate a much lower frequency of flights, when compared with their scheduled rivals from London and Manchester (for example, Zoom have a couple of flights each week from Gatwick to Toronto compared to Air Canada's five daily flights to Toronto from London Heathrow). Therefore Zoom become much less competitive during peak times. However, considering the huge convenience the airline offers for passengers living near some of the regional airports they serve, together with opportunities to upgrade to extra-legroom seats from just £49 each way, Zoom can still represent excellent value.

As we would also advise with charter airlines, bear in mind that because some of Zoom's routes only operate on a fortnightly basis, the levels of support when things go wrong are much lower than they would be with a scheduled airline.
