United Flights: Airline Profile and Routes Information

Profile:

United is one of the largest airlines in the USA, but are currently trying to recover from going into administration. United are one of two American carriers who are entitled to operate flights from London Heathrow to New York, although their frequency of service lags well behind that of American Airlines, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. United have major hubs in Chicago, San Francisco and Washington DC, from where they also operate regular flights to London, as well as in Denver. United are also able to offer flights to Chicago from Manchester thanks to a codeshare partnership with fellow Star Alliance member BMI. United used to have a very strong brand presence, with their “Fly the friendly skies” slogan becoming particularly well known in the US, but their fortunes were already dwindling before the disastrous events of September 11, 2001, during which two of United's aircraft were hijacked.
