Swefly are a classic case of the perils of expanding too fast. Having operated domestic flights within Sweden for around ten years, in June 2005 Swefly launched an ambitious programme of low-cost flights to Pakistan via Skavsta airport outside Stockholm.
These flights were fed by connections from Leeds and London Luton, but even though there is plenty of room for more competition on flights between the UK and Pakistan, Swefly's lack of experience in this market, combined with the poor economics of having to make passengers change aircraft in Sweden, led to the whole airline going out of business a few months later.
