Profile:
Qantas (which stands for Queensland and Northern Territory Air Services), are the national airline of Australia. A codesharing arrangement with British Airways, who are a major shareholder in Qantas, has enabled both airlines to continue to maintain a strong presence on the so-called kangaroo route between London and Australia. Qantas operate regular flights from London to both Sydney and Melbourne, with the option of a Hong Kong stopover having been added to the well-established routes via Bangkok or Singapore. British Airways have recently withdrawn from operating flights to Melbourne, with Qantas stepping up the frequency of their flights between Singapore and Melbourne to compensate for this. Qantas also operate non-stop flights to Singapore from cities such as Perth and Adelaide, further enhancing the availability of one-stop connections from the UK to Australia. Qantas also own Australian Airlines, who operate long-haul flights from Cairns in northern Queensland. Within Australia, Qantas operate an extensive network of domestic flights, both under their own branding and through their budget subsidiary Jetstar.
