Monarch Scheduled Airline Profile:
Monarch Scheduled have been on the scene for a number of years, operating a high frequency of flights to popular holiday destinations. Having established themselves at Luton, in March 2005 Monarch Scheduled opened their hub at Birmingham International, which followed on from the opening of a base in Manchester the previous year.
In November 2005, Monarch Scheduled started offering cheap flights to Malaga from the regional airports of Aberdeen, Blackpool and Newquay. Whereas the Aberdeen and Blackpool flights appear to have been reasonably successful, passenger numbers on the Newquay flights have been much lower, prompting Monarch Scheduled to withdraw this route at the end of winter, conveniently blaming the new development charge (£5 per departing passenger) which has been imposed by Newquay airport.
Monarch Scheduled class themselves as a high quality budget airline, being one of the few to offer free newspapers, snacks and drinks on board. Additionally, Monarch Scheduled, who generally operate larger aircraft than most of their no-frills rivals, also offer allocated seating and the option of paying a supplement to book extra-legroom seats.
