Loganair (Flybe) Flights: Airline Profile and Routes Information
Cheap flights > Airlines > Loganair (Flybe) (BA4)
Profile:
Loganair operate an extensive route network in the Scottish Highlands and Islands under a franchise agreement with Flybe. Loganair's main operations base is at Glasgow International airport and the airline also operates a number of routes from Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Most of Loganair's routes operate under a public service obligation (PSO) arrangement through which the Scottish Office provide funding, as they would not otherwise be financially viable. Despite this government handout, flights with Loganair still tend to be much more pricey than flights between Scotland and London. This is as much due to the higher costs which are incurred by operating smaller aircraft with fewer passengers as it is down to the inherent lack of competition on these routes.

Loganair hold the distinction of operating the shortest scheduled flight route in the world - the journey from Westray to Papa Westray takes just two minutes, with the distance between the two islands being only slightly greater than the length of the runways on each of them. Loganair's flights to Barra are also unique in that the timetabling is subject to variances in the tide. This is because Barra airport uses the beach as its runway!
