Major Hubs

American Airlines (often abbreviated to just AA on the other side of the Pond, but not so much here because of confusion with a certain motoring organisation), are based in Dallas and have major hubs in Boston, Chicago, Miami, New York, Los Angeles and San Juan in Puerto Rico.

American Airlines flights to the USA from the UK

All of the above cities have direct American Airlines flights from London, with the exception of San Juan, which lacks any direct links to the UK despite the most important airport in the Caribbean. Additionally, American Airlines offer some regional links from Glasgow (Chicago) and Manchester (Boston, Chicago, Miami).

Flights to New York

American Airlines offer the highest frequency of service between London and New York JFK, with British Airways’ code-share flights to JFK (BA also fly to New York Newark) supplementing this frequency even further. The popularity of the BA-AA alliance on this route is buoyed further by each airline offering an extensive range of connections either side of the Atlantic.

American Airlines themselves do not offer flights from Manchester to New York, but do have a code-share service with British Airways on this route. American Airlines had announced plans late last year to launch flights from Newcastle to New York, although these have been shelved for the time being.

Alliances

Although currently on the backburner, a merger between American Airlines and British Airways has long been feted, despite intense objections to this move from rival Virgin Atlantic. Both airlines are part of the One World alliance, and many of their routes between the UK and the USA are code-shared.
