Afriqiyah Airways are a privately owned airline, who started operating flights from the Libyan capital Tripoli in 2001. The airline now operate a network of flights throughout Africa, including a link to the Libyan oil city of Benghazi. Afriqiyah Airways also operate flights from London Gatwick to Tripoli, in competition with the established national carriers Libyan Arab Airlines and British Airways. The airline have the dubious accolade of being one of just two companies to have been given a one star rating by the influential airline review website Skytrax.
