Aeroflot are the national airline of Russia. Back in the Cold War days Aeroflot used to be the butt of aviation industry jokes in much the same way Skoda were within the car industry, but they have undergone some dramatic (and largely successful) re-branding since the fall of the Iron Curtain. Further confirmation of Aeroflot’s acceptance into the mainstream is expected this year when they join the Skyteam airline alliance. They have even done away with many of the old Soviet-era aircraft – Aeroflot’s flights between London and Moscow are now operated by modern Airbus A321 aircraft.
