@JohnMorrisHello I'm intrigued - pray tell where this new runway east of current site would go, and where would taxiways go?

Flight Summary
Flights to Lagos are available from London Heathrow with Arik Air, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. Lagos serves as one of West Africa's most important aviation hubs, resulting in a wide range of connecting flights available from the UK. Unfortunately these rarely offer good value compared with the direct option. The one consistently cheap alternative route - Afriqiyah Airways from Gatwick via Tripoli - is currently suspended pending a resolution to the ongoing crisis in Libya.Destination Summary
Lagos is one of the biggest and gloriously chaotic cities in Africa. The Nigerian business capital is a feast for the senses - teeming markets where literally anything is available contrast with the skyscrapers and designer shops of the exclusive Victoria Island district.Quick Facts

We are often asked why it is virtually impossible to find cheap flights to Lagos, considering that it is not only the largest city in Africa, but that there is also a substantial Nigerian community in London and elsewhere across the UK. Why, for example, can you buy a return ticket from London to New York for £250, but rarely find a return fare to Lagos for under £600? The simple answer is the lack of competition on the London to Lagos route. Currently, only British Airways, Arik Air and Virgin Atlantic offer direct flights between London and Lagos.Because of this lack of competition, prices are kept artificially high, and the status quo will remain until someone else can muscle their way into this lucrative market. The small number of flights on offer also means that demand far outweighs supply ' another reason for high prices.

The issue apparently involves fare disparities between premium bookings on Lagos - LHR compared with Accra - LHR, which is of similar distance. This could perhaps be nicknamed 'premiumgate' for short. Interestingly enough, Accra -LHR has been the only route example cited, while the rest of the West coast of Africa, largely covered by Airfrance isn't mentioned. The most prominent of these is the absence of any real competitive Nigerian airlines on the Lagos-LHR rouite.
Added to this, hardly anything specific on the general parameters that are involved in fare calculation have been treated and the authorities seem to display an inadequate sense of appreciation of the laspses on the Nigerian side, from hardware (basic infra) and the business challenges faced by these airlines operating in Nigeria also factor into the price.
In the spirit of the promotion of fair trade, even in the sky, the ministry should rather undertake a comprehensive study of the premium fare kingdom across all operators to Lagos and make a more informed judgement of irregularities and act based on this more informed position.
At the same time, a radical facilities upgrade of Lagos airport will not be out of place and well as other improvements that wiould help drive down costs.
