Flights to Rhode Island - overview

Although there are no major international airports in Rhode Island, there are regular connecting flights to Providence’s TF Green (PVD) airport from most of the major northeast hubs, including New York, Philadelphia and Washington DC, as well as from Toronto in Canada.

There are regular coach links between Boston and various towns in Rhode Island. The state can also be reached from New York within about three hours - or after a leisurely day's drive through Long Island, followed by a ferry transfer from Orient Point (Long Island) to New London (just across the state border from Rhode Island in Connecticut).

An Amtrak station is currently being built at TF Green airport, but for now you will have to take the airport shuttle ($9 each way) to Providence’s station, which is served by the new Acela trains on the route between Boston and New York. The journey between Boston and Providence takes just under an hour and costs from $15 (£8) each way, whereas it takes three hours to get between Providence and New York’s Penn Station, with a single ticket costing from $64 (£35).
