More suggestions for finding cheap flights from Oxford
Attempts to get commuter flights from Oxford to Cambridge off the ground early this year did not materialise, but Oxford still has the potential to offer passenger flights to popular UK domestic destinations such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast, and Dublin in Ireland.
The existing terminal is hampered by extremely limited capacity for passenger carrying aircraft, but Oxford's runway is regularly used for Boeing 737 training flights.
If local planning obstacles could be overcome, a modest new terminal at the airport could also bring in the possibility of flights to major European destinations like Amsterdam and Paris.
The runway appears unlikely to be able to deal with a fully laden Boeing 737 size aircraft, but could still handle a wide range of turboprops and regional jets.
