Manchester has an extensive network of domestic flights. As the most important airport in the Britain outside London, competition at Manchester is fierce, especially for the high-frequency shuttle flights to London. Air Berlin have recently joined the party by offering twice daily flights from Manchester to Stansted. Outside London, passengers have a choice of three airlines on flights to Edinburgh (BA Connect, BMI Regional and Jet2), Belfast (BMI Baby to Belfast International; Flybe or BA Connect to Belfast City) and Dublin (Aer Lingus, Luxair and Ryanair). Apart from destinations which are too close to make flights viable (Birmingham, Newcastle etc), there are no major UK cities which do not have regular flights to Manchester. Routes to smaller regional cities such as a Londonderry, Dundee and Bournemouth have not yet been able to sustain themselves. Extensive competition on domestic flights from Manchester helps to keep prices reasonably competitive, but when demand is high, you might find one or two cheaper alternatives at Liverpool. The train is also well worth considering for journeys from Manchester to London, and between Manchester and Scottish cities such as Edinburgh and Glasgow.
