London Stansted - Domestic flights summary:
Stansted has a comprehensive network of budget flights within the UK and Ireland, although there are some notable omissions such as Aberdeen and Inverness (see Easyjet from Luton; also Gatwick to Inverness) and Durham Tees Valley (see BMI Baby from Gatwick). Easyjet are the dominant player on flights to Scotland and Northern Ireland, whereas Ryanair have a stranglehold on the Republic of Ireland, with additional routes operating to Newquay (despite frequency cuts), Blackpool and Glasgow Prestwick. With these two airlines fiercely battling it out between them, it was a brave move of Air Berlin to open up competing routes from Stansted to Glasgow and Belfast, although in both cases the German airline has sensibly chosen to use the airport which is closest to the city centre (Belfast City and Glasgow Interntational respectively), bringing some much-needed extra competition into Belfast City airport in particular. Air Berlin also offer cheap flights to Manchester from Stansted, with flights also being available to the Channel Islands courtesy of Aurigny (Guernsey) and Atlantic Express (Jersey).
