Airport Parking at Stansted Airport
Stansted airport parking Stansted has a reasonable choice of on and off-airport parking, and it is well worth shopping around for the best deal. Everything at Stansted is about sprawl -- the terminal building is spread out on one single floor, with a bus station taking up most of the space immediately outside the terminal. Therefore, most airport parking Stansted involves either a long walk or a shuttle bus to get to the terminal. Operators such as Pink Elephant offer some of the best value options, but their car parks are a couple of miles away from the terminal and offer a varying frequency of shuttle buses. In our opinion, the long-stay car parks are also very badly signposted, so bear that in mind if you plan on driving to Stansted airport. There are various hotels offering airport parking deals at Stansted, the most convenient of which is the striking new Radisson SAS Stansted Airport, which is just a couple of hundred yards away from the terminal.
Can I leave my car at home, or am I better off parking it at Stansted airport?
The comically named Stansted Airport Express takes 45 minutes to crawl between London Liverpool Street and the airport terminal. It can sometimes be slightly more convenient to take the Victoria line, and board the Stansted Express at Tottenham Hale. In addition to coach services operating into central London, National Express also offer a frequent shuttle link from Stratford station in east London. There are various coach and bus services from other parts of the UK, but these often tend to trundle through either Cambridge or Luton, but if you like taking a tour of 1970s new towns on the way to the airport, then they can be a reasonable option. Central trains also provide an infrequent and slow link to Birmingham New Street via Cambridge, but this really does go "round the Wrekin" on the way there.
Bottlenecks to watch out for near Stansted airport
The M11 is still prone to congestion in both directions, but the access roads to Stansted airport are a lot better than they used to be. Heading to Stansted from the Midlands and the north of England is usually hassle free (although both the A14 and A1 carry a lot of slow freight traffic), but driving south is a different matter because you will either have to tackle the dreaded M25 or the traffic clogged A12.
