Cheap flights to Ireland from Gatwick Airport

Competition on cheap flights from Gatwick to Ireland intensified massively last year, when Easyjet launched new routes to Cork and Knock, the airline’s first ever foray into Ryanair’s Irish stronghold. Naturally, these new routes were a fiery orange rag to the intemperate bull that is Ryanair’s CEO Michael O’Leary, who quickly responded by launching matching routes from Gatwick, even though Ryanair had previously focused virtually all of its London routes on Stansted and Luton.Whilst the rapidly expanding Cork airport has always been able to sustain enough demand to enjoy the rivalry between the two airlines, management at Knock airport had to suffer the double whammy of both airlines pulling their Gatwick to Knock routes after just one season. Meanwhile, Ryanair unsurprisingly emerged as clear winners on the Cork route, with Easyjet making a hasty retreat from there as well.This leaves Ryanair without competition on flights from Gatwick to Cork and Shannon, where the budget giant continues to enjoy a dominant position. Meanwhile, the Gatwick to Dublin route is one of the few examples where British Airways and Ryanair compete directly against each other on a like-for-like basis.
