London City - Domestic flights summary:
London City has a fairly limited network of domestic flight routes, although the routes which are available tend to operate more frequently when compared with other London airports. The most popular domestic flights from City airport operate between the finance capitals of Edinburgh and London, where there is strong competition between Scot Airways (currently nine flights per day) and BA Connect (seven flights per day). Scot Airways also provide the only regular scheduled flights from Dundee, whereas VLM offer shuttle flights to Liverpool, Manchester and Jersey. More recently, Eastern have launched regular flights from London City to Newcastle, although BMI's attempts to operate flights between Leeds and London City proved to be unsuccessful. The airport's biggest selling points are the time saving it offers when compared to using London's larger and more congested hubs and the fact that it is so close to the Docklands and the City. On the flip side, high airport handling fees and a lack of competition on many routes inevitably leads to more expensive flights than the other London airports. The airport is also heavily restricted in terms of the range of aircraft which it can handle - the BAe 146/RJ 100 is the only jet which is regularly used on UK domestic flights from London City - other airlines prefer to use turbo props, which are fine for short distances, but would get a little uncomfortable on longer journeys to cities such as Aberdeen, especially in bad weather.
