City Airport flights - Long Haul

The runway at London City is far too short for any scheduled long-haul flights to be contemplated, but regular connections are available via cities such as Amsterdam (KLM), Copenhagen (SAS), or Zurich (Swiss). The same could also be said of Air France’s flights into Paris Orly, especially if you are heading to African, Caribbean or Indian Ocean destinations served the French national carrier. These options are unlikely to have much appeal when compared to a direct flight from Heathrow or Gatwick, but if you are likely to transfer via one of the above cities anyway, then why not start and end your journey away from the chaotic crowds? Bear in mind that you might sometimes be offered outward flights via Heathrow, and a return via London City (or vice versa) if booking on an internet consolidator. Although this might be a problem if you're planning on leaving your car at the airport (London City isn't really geared up for this anyway), public transport connections to and from London City have improved dramatically since the opening of the Dockland Light Railway extension.
