Liverpool - Domestic flights summary:
Relative to other comparable UK airports, Liverpool does not have a particularly good network of domestic flights, with some of the more recent route launches experiencing considerably mixed fortunes. VLM's shuttle flights to London enjoyed an excellent first year, but there seems to be less incentive for further frequency increases now that Virgin Trains have finally managed to launch an upgraded train service between Liverpool and London. Although Liverpool is a well-established and fast growing destination in its own right, many of the airport's international routes have been developed on the basis of the airport being a much lower cost alternative to Manchester. This cost advantage is much more heavily outweighed by the airport's distance from Manchester when it comes to trying to attract more domestic passengers, and Flybe in particular have had to cancel a number of routes from Liverpool, due to insufficient levels of demand from the high-value business passengers they need to make such flights viable.
