Glasgow Prestwick flights:
Thanks to a very favourable deal with Prestwick airport management, together with the Scottish Executive’s route subsidies, Ryanair has been able to offer a fantastic range of cheap flights to Europe from Prestwick, with its network now covering destinations stretching from the Latvian capital Riga, through Germany, France and Italy, right down to Murcia on Spain’s Costa Calida. Compared to Ryanair’s English regional bases, such as Liverpool and East Midlands, Prestwick’s network of cheap flights to Spain is perhaps not as strong as it could be, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see Glasgow included in the next batch of new routes from the rapidly expanding budget facility at Madrid’s Barajas airport. Although Ryanair are very much the dominant player for Prestwick flights, they do face of competition from the budget airline Wizzair when it comes to offering cheap flights to Poland. Meanwhile, KLM subsidiary Transavia has recently started operating cheap flights from Prestwick to Amsterdam, a city not currently served by budget flights from Glasgow International. A limited range of charter flights to Europe is also available from Prestwick, although a much wider range of destinations is on offer from Glasgow International. |
