Airport Parking at Prestwick Airport

Glasgow Prestwick prides itself on being Scotland's best value airport, and there are plenty of reasonably priced parking spaces available directly outside the terminal. Prestwick is nothing like as boxed in as either Glasgow International or Edinburgh airport, so there has been no need to build costly multi-storey car parks. Because of the huge expansion the airport has experienced in recent years, this means that some of the car park spaces are quite a walk from the terminal, although shuttle buses are available from all of the recognised parking areas. However, it is still perfectly possible to park right outside the terminal, at a slightly higher rate. At the budget end of the scale, most of the Glasgow Prestwick airport parking comparison websites will give you the additional choice of Watson's Ayr Park, which is situated just a few minutes away from the terminal, on an industrial estate in the village of Monkton, to the north of the airport runway.

Can I leave my car at home, or am I better off parking it at Prestwick airport?

Prestwick airport has always had a very progressive attitude towards encouraging public transport, having opened an on-site railway station back in 1994, before Ryanair established a major base there. Trains from Glasgow Central Station take around 45 minutes to reach Prestwick, with services operating every 30 minutes throughout most of the day. Bus services are also available, including a night time link to Glasgow Buchanan Street bus station and Edinburgh Waverley rail station. All passengers using flights to or from Prestwick airport get to benefit from half-price rail travel to any destination within Scotland. Free rail travel is also available during the first six months of any new route's operation. For this reason, we'd have to recommend giving the train some serious thought. To get your free or discounted travel ticket, produce your original flight confirmation (your booking confirmation with the airline logo) at a First ScotRail booking office or the airport's informaiton desk where you'll be issued with a free travel voucher to anywhere in Scotland. These special tickets are not available on train.

Bottlenecks to watch out for near Prestwick airport

Driving to Prestwick airport used to be quite a hassle, but now that the M77 extension to the north-east of Kilmarnock has opened, access has become a great deal easier. Although we still think that Prestwick is a little bit more hassle to get to from Scotland's central belt than either Glasgow International or Edinburgh, any bottlenecks on the way here will almost certainly not be in the vicinity of the airport itself. The massively improved road access now means that the savings which are on offer at Prestwick, compared to flights from BAA's Scottish airports, can usually more than justify the slightly longer drive to get there. Although Prestwick airport is the largest in Scotland in terms of airfield size, the terminal complex is extremely compact and easy to get around. http://www.watsonsayrpark.com/public/cardbooking.aspx - Purple....
