Airport Parking at International Airport
The newly expanded parking facilities at Glasgow airport include a multi-storey car park, with a link bridge taking passengers directly inside the main terminal building. In addition to the Holiday Inn hotel which adjoins this car park, there are also several other Glasgow airport hotels which offer combined parking deals. These hotels are situated site to the south of the main airport site, alongside the M8 flyover, but still within walking distance of the terminal. With the Glasgow airport site blurring into the industrial suburbs of Paisley, there are a number of locations for discounted off-airport parking within easy range of the terminal building.
Can I leave my car at home, or am I better off parking it at International airport?
Frequent shuttle buses run between Glasgow International airport and the city centre, providing access to Central and Queen Street stations, as well as Buchanan Street bus station. There are also regular buses between Paisley Gilmour Street station, the closest fixed rail link to the terminal, and Glasgow airport. Scottish Citylink's round-the-clock coach services between Edinburgh and Glasgow usually have a continuation onto the airport, but reaching Glasgow airport by public transport from other parts of Scotland tends to be much more cumbersome, especially for early-morning or late evening flights. With a large number of hotels being located near the airport terminal, a hotel and parking deal might well be the best value, especially if you are travelling from Aberdeen or Inverness to catch an early morning flight from Glasgow.
Bottlenecks to watch out for near International airport
The M8 motorway provides direct access to the airport complex. In our experience, the biggest problem with getting to Glasgow airport by road from the city centre, or anywhere further east, is crossing the notorious Kingston Bridge across the Clyde. Even though traffic can often move across this bridge at the pace of molasses, it does at least usually still move! From most parts of the Scottish central belt, we still think that Glasgow airport is much more convenient to get to than Prestwick.
