Last year, Ryanair axed its daily flights from Cardiff, claiming that the airport was trying to charge unrealistically high handling fees. Aer Arran immediately stepped in to fill the gap, and now offers flights to three destinations in Ireland from Cardiff - Cork, Dublin and Shannon. Competition on flights to Northern Ireland has also recently hotted up, thanks to Flybe announcing a new route to Belfast City, going head-to-head against BmiBaby’s existing cheap flights to Belfast International from Cardiff. Alternatively, nearby Bristol airport offers a similar route network of flights to Ireland, but it is always worth comparing timings and prices, especially on the busy route to Dublin, where Bristol offers a choice between Ryanair and Aer Lingus.
