Although there is competition on flights from Birmingham to Dublin and Cork, this is nothing like as intense as it is on Birmingham to Belfast flights. Other Irish destinations which have regular flights from Birmingham include Knock and Galway. Aer Arran has recently announced plans to start flights from Birmingham to Waterford. The Irish regional specialist has previously operated flights from Birmingham to Londonderry, but this route was axed, due to poor sales. Following some speculation that Aer Arran might be interested in operating cheap flights from Coventry, it will be interesting to see if they open up any more new flight routes to Ireland from Birmingham. One notable gap in Birmingham’s Irish route map is Shannon, which has previously been served by Flybe. With Ryanair’s current dominance at Shannon, we think it is unlikely that any other airline will want to risk restarting Birmingham to Shannon flights, as Ryanair already operate cheap flights to Shannon from East Midlands and Luton.
