Belfast City flights:
Whereas Belfast International airport offers a limited number of direct long-haul flights, the focus at Belfast City is almost exclusively on flights within the British Isles. There is no realistic prospect of any direct long-haul Belfast flights starting from George Best City airport, mainly due to the airport’s relatively short runway, but also because of extensive local restrictions governing the size of aircraft which can fly from here. The main option for long-haul connections is to take one of the regular London Heathrow shuttle flights, which provide numerous onward transfer opportunities, especially with BMI and its Star Alliance partner airlines. Transferring onto other airlines’ flights from Heathrow can be more cumbersome, especially as this usually involves a change of terminal. Additional long-haul connections are available through most other London airports, or through hubs such as Birmingham and Manchester. It is also worth noting that a wide range of direct flights to the USA and Canada is available from Dublin. |
