Aberdeen flights:
On the international front, Aberdeen has always had a limited range of leisure flights as well as flights to Paris and Amsterdam and the oil industry specific flights to Groningen and a number of Norwegian destinations. Monarch Scheduled have started cheap flights to Malaga, where they have set up a hub, from Aberdeen; whereas Flyglobespan have recently announced plans to start cheap flights to Tenerife from Aberdeen for the winter 2006/2007 season. The airline have also stated that they intend to base an aircraft at Aberdeen for the summer 2007, although no details about routes have been confirmed. We would expect to see a scaled-down version of routes to the more popular destinations the airline currently serve from Edinburgh and Glasgow. Budget airline Ryanair have also claimed that they would like to operate many more routes from Aberdeen, but that the charging structure applied by BAA prevents them from doing so. The chances are that Aberdeen will prove to be perfectly capable of significantly expanding its international flight route network without needing to offer any special favours to Ryanair, although allowing the cheeky Irish carrier to set up a base here would certainly spice things up a little in what is otherwise a relatively conservative market place. |
