Further details about finding flights to South America :
Direct flights
South America is not well served by direct flights from the UK, with São Paulo being the only South American city to have non-stop scheduled flights from the UK. Flights to Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro continue onwards from São Paulo. The RAF also operate two weekly flights to the Falkland Islands from the UK.
Connecting flights
The Spanish capital Madrid and the Portuguese capital Lisbon, which both maintain strong colonial links with South America, offer the widest choice of flights to South America, but neither of these cities are well served by regional feeder flights from UK airports outside London. Airlines like KLM and Air France might not offer quite the same breadth of destinations, but they do at least offer a much better choice of UK regional departure airports.
Another option is to find flights via the USA - New York Newark in particular has a good range of flights from various UK regional departure points, as well as a strong selection of onward links to South America. However, flights to South America via the USA are both more hassle (due to US airport procedures), and take a lot longer compared to flying direct from Europe.
Charter flights
One of the cheapest ways of getting to Brazil is to take advantage of charter flights to Natal or Salvador, which sometimes operate from either Gatwick or Manchester.
