James Says
The Swiss capital, like other capital cities which are stuck halfway between two larger business centres, lacks the kind of flight route network which it might otherwise have merited. However, it still comes as a surprise to many people that flights to Bern are available at all, considering the prominence of Geneva as a no frills hub, and Zurich as a major banking centre.
Bern's tiny Belp Airport is approximately six miles to the south of the Swiss capital, under the watchful eye of the stunning Jungfrau mountain region. Alas perceived high prices and Belp's short runway discourage most no-frills airlines from serving Bern. However, Flybe have found an ideal niche by taking advantage of the fact that their fleet is made up of smaller aircraft than many of their rivals.
For the business oriented traveller, SkyWork Airlines also operate direct flights from London City to Bern.
Although Bern Airport does not have a station, there are regular bus links, which naturally, like the rest of the Swiss public transport system, operate like clockwork. A short bus ride will take you to the suburban Belp station, from where you can continue towards Bern itself, or south towards Spiez, and onwards to popular outdoor centres such as Interlaken, or Zermatt via Brig.
