Stockholm might be a relatively small capital compared to other major European countries, but there are no less than four airports serving the city. Most international flights arrive into Stockholm Arlanda, which is well connected to the city centre courtesy of the "Stockholm Arlanda Express", which operates every 20 minutes.

The neighbouring island of Riddarholmen , to the west of Gamla Stan, remains off the beaten track despite boasting a wealth of beautiful old buildings. Stockholm has a huge range of accommodation, from hostels to ultra-stylish design hotels. It is worth booking in advance during the summer months and also note that because Stockholm is a big business city, rates generally go down at weekends.

I'm thinking of going to Stockholm in March. I'm happy with going from Gatwick or Stanstead, just wondering if you think it is better to get cheap flights with Ryanair, or is it cheaper in the long run to go straight to Arlanda?

  When comparing prices, bear in mind that unlike most low cost airlines, Norwegian Air Shuttle (LGW-ARN) will not impose a fee for paying by debit card. I have found them to be generally comparable to Ryanair on price, so the rest boils down to airport and airline experience. After their latest CAPTCHA developments, I have had enough of Ryanair, so I'm inclined to suggest going with anyone but!
  
  Also, which airport do you prefer? Arlanda is a nice, smooth Scandinavian design - not quite as nice as either Oslo or Copenhagen, but still easy to use, and a fast, albeit exorbitantly priced, train link into the city.

Thanks, Actually, coming from Winchester, Gatwick is closer anyway, but I do actually quite like using Stansted, I think Gatwick is just a big sprawling mess.
