  • Flights to Spain - Overview

It is usually possible to find cheap flights to Spain from just about every international airport in the UK, although prices and the range of destinations available vary considerably from one airport to the next.
In the last two years, there has been a huge shift towards budget flights to Spain, with charter airlines increasingly moving away from this market. Although prices rise sharply during the holiday season, you should have no problem finding cheap flights to popular destinations such as Malaga, Alicante, Palma in Majorca and Tenerife from most corners of the UK.
Finding flights to major Spanish cities such as Barcelona and Madrid is much more dependent on whether or not your local no-frills airline has a good deal with the destination airport, in respect of slots and handling fees. For example, Easyjet are the only major budget airline to offer cheap flights to Madrid from the UK, and these are available from the airline's bases in Liverpool and Bristol, as well as from London.
Barcelona remains ever popular as a short break destination, but despite a massive increase in capacity through the opening of a second runway, the airport is seen by many airlines as expensive to use, and a number of flight routes to Barcelona have been cancelled. However, although Spanish cities do not usually have secondary airports, Barcelona does at least have the alternative possibilities of finding flights to nearby Girona or Reus instead.
In recent years an increasing number of routes have become available to cities in central and northern Spain, with Ryanair and Easyjet leading the way. Although most of these routes have developed from London, Ryanair offer a very good range of cheap flights to Spain from Liverpool, having recently announced a new route to Seville, complementing existing flights to Granada, Reus and Girona.

We hope that you have found this information about flights to Spain useful.

    Mini guide to Spain

From each of its four distant corners, Spain simply bristles with variety and tantalizing options of every description.
In the north, San Sebastián provides glitz, glamour, pintxos bars and beautiful city beaches; hot on its heels in the Basque tourist stakes is Bilbao, thanks mainly to the remarkable Guggenheim museum.
Across the north and south of the country, the spectacular peaks of the Pyrenees, Picos de Europa and Sierra Nevada offer everything for the mountain enthusiast, while wine lovers will find plenty to appreciate in the regions of Rioja, and Penedès. In the east, Barcelona provides an unparalleled showcase for imaginative design and daring architecture, while just down the coast, the outrageous nightlife of Sitges offers different, but equally compelling, reasons to visit Catalonia. Further south still, in Valencia, you'll find the home of paella, the Holy Grail and March's world-famous street party 'Las Fallas', as well as the riotous 'La Tomatina' – the world's biggest tomato fight. Valencia is also challenging Barcelona for the title of Spain’s design capital.
The traditional flamenco-inspired image of Spain can also still be savoured, particularly in its southernmost region Andalusia, where the 'big three' cultural and historical centres of Seville, Granada and Córdoba and the secluded hills of Las Alpujarras are the pick of the attractions. And then there's Madrid – cultured, brash, noisy, serene – yet another cocktail of contradictions in a country already teeming with variety.
