The Eastern European budget airline Wizzair started cheap flights to Bucharest's Aurel Vlaicu (formerly known as Baneasa) airport from the UK in January 2007. Other no-frills airlines were expected to follow, but the only additional route confirmed so far is from Easyjet, who start their first UK to Romania cheap flights in October.

Aurel Vlaicu airport is situated five miles north of central Bucharest, making it one of the few low costs airports to be closer to the city centre than the main international airport.
