Direct flights
Out of the three Baltic states, Lithuania is the only country which offers UK passengers a choice of different arrival airports. The coastal resort of Palanga has recently been added to the list, with the Lithuanian national airline FlyLal adding inward flights from London Stansted and Dublin for the 2008 summer season.
The Lithuanian capital Vilnius sees competition between FlyLal and Air Baltic, whereas Ryanair operate flights to the central city of Kaunas from four airports within the UK and Ireland. British Airways no longer offer direct flights to Lithuania from the UK.
Regional connections
Regional flight connections to Vilnius are dominated by the Dutch airline KLM (via Amsterdam), although you might also find connections via cities such as Copenhagen, Stockholm or Frankfurt. Expect to pay through the nose for connecting flights to Palanga.
Internal connections
There are no domestic flights in Lithuania, and, although none of the country's airports offer direct connections to the rail network, it is perfectly easy to fly to Vilnius, and to reach Kaunas or other major cities by train. Ryanair's flights into Kaunas might also serve as a useful alternative to flights to Vilnius, especially if you happen to live near Liverpool or Shannon.
Alternatives to flying
All of the Baltic states, including Lithuania, can be reached by a combination of train and/or ferry (particularly from Scandinavia), although this is certainly not the quickest option!
