Flight Summary
Direct flights to the Italian port city of Genoa are available from London with both British Airways and Ryanair. Connecting flights to Genoa are much more limited in their availability - few other European cities offer links there, and domestic flights from Genoa are concentrated largely on Rome. It is easy to reach Genoa via Milan, from where regular bus and train links are available. Alternatively, there are plenty of cheap flights to either Pisa to the southeast, or Nice, just across the border in France to the west. Both of these cities are slightly further away from Genoa than Milan, but either of these coastal routes offers glorious scenery.
Destination Summary
Genoa was the European City of Culture in 2004, at last giving the northern Italian port the chance to clean itself up and throw off the shackles of its gritty and grimy reputation.

Mark Says
A once mighty trading empire, Genoa has never really got over the mistake of refusing to fund local lad Christopher Columbus’ escapades to the New World. Modern Genoa is still an important port, but this northern Italian city was looking decidedly shabby before it was awarded the much coveted European Capital of Culture prize in 2004. This kick-started some serious urban renewal as decaying buildings were spruced up and the seedy docks were given a new lease of life by celebrated architect Renzo Piano.
