James Says

If the direct flights to Carcassonne with Ryanair are not convenient, then there are several other airports in southwest France which might be worth considering. Flybe offer connections to Perpignan and Toulouse, including feeder links from cities such as Edinburgh and Glasgow. There are no internal flights to Carcassonne from within France, although there are plenty of connections to cities such as Toulouse. Carcassonne is not well served by the French TGV rail network.

Mark Says

The splendid UNESCO listed walled city of Carcassonne makes for an ideal city break at any time of the year.

@Jodatu High speed should be just that - limited stop (which hs2 is), stations that provide onward connections (which hs2 does very poorly)

@Jodatu You wouldn't want 3 stations in Birmingham serving #HS2 - also, double deck, 400m long trains not compatible with classic track

@Jodatu You could make that argument about any central station or hub airport. Reality is, origin + connection passengers justify both
