All direct flights to Aalborg from the UK & Ireland

Flight Summary

Flights to Aalborg are available from London Gatwick with Norwegian Air Shuttle. Connecting flights to Aalborg are available via the Danish capital Copenhagen. Note that although the flying distance between the two cities is less than 150 miles, trying to travel between Aalborg and Copenhagen by the circuitous land route takes a considerable amount of time, due to the country's island geography. You might find alternative flights to cities such as Billund or Aarhus, which are also on the Jutland peninsula.

Aalborg update Direct flights The only direct flights to Aalborg from the UK are with Norwegian Air Shuttle from London Gatwick, who replaced Sterling on the route following the budget airline's collapse in November 2008. Connecting flights Connecting flights to Aalborg are available from a wide range of UK regional airports, with SAS and their partner airline BMI via Copenhagen. This includes flights to Aalborg from Birmingham (SAS), Aalborg flights from Manchester (SAS) and flights to Aalborg from Edinburgh and Leeds Bradford (BMI) - all of these flights are via Copenhagen.Alternative airports to Aalborg Most people travelling between Copenhagen and Aalborg will fly, as the overland route is considerably slower. One alternative is to take advantage of Ryanair's cheap flights to Billund from several different UK airports, but you will still need to allow around 2 1/4 hours (205 km) to drive from Billund airport to Aalborg. The trains are even slower -- you will have to go by bus first from Billund to Vejle (note that this bus goes direct from Billund airport; you will not need to change in Billund itself), and then proceed by train -- allow at least 3 1/2 hours for the journey! For further details about trains in Denmark, go to the DSB Danish railways website. Unfortunately it is not available with an English translation. Trains from Copenhagen Kastrup airport will take you direct to Aalborg, but allow just over five hours for the journey, or four hours to drive from Copenhagen to Aalborg in a hire car.

@Jodatu High speed should be just that - limited stop (which hs2 is), stations that provide onward connections (which hs2 does very poorly)

@Jodatu You wouldn't want 3 stations in Birmingham serving #HS2 - also, double deck, 400m long trains not compatible with classic track

@Jodatu You could make that argument about any central station or hub airport. Reality is, origin + connection passengers justify both
