James Says

National airline CSA Czech Airlines have responded to the competition by cutting the prices of their own flights to Prague , especially from cities such as Birmingham and Edinburgh , where they have faced direct competition with budget flights from the same airport.
If you are looking to take a city break to Prague and you are short of time, then it might be worth checking out this section of the Lastminute.com website. Booking late on can often lead to big savings, especially if you are open to where you want to take a short weekend break.

Mark Says

At Flightmapping we must admit a rather large bias towards Prague . The company founders' grandmother was born in the Czech capital and was forever urging him to visit the city. Prague is truly captivating, and it is easy to forgive its few flaws ' even the fact that the former family home has now been converted into a sex shop! This beautiful city, which somehow avoided the physical scars of World War II and Communism, is now learning to cope with the more subtle approach of globalisation and the not so subtle 'stag-do' invasion. So far Prague has managed to absorb both with aplomb ' the multinationals have not touched the Little Quarter and Castle districts, whilst the usually well meaning, but always loud, stag parties, generally stick to central areas around Wenceslas Square, Old Town Square and the Charles Bridge. The sheer number of people at the main tourist sites can be overwhelming, especially on the aforementioned Charles Bridge, so we would recommend visiting Prague away from the peak summer season if possible. For incurable romantics Prague is best during the winter months ' there are few more stunning views in Europe than looking across the Vltava River towards Prague Castle when the city is covered in a blanket of snow. There is of course more to Prague than picture postcard views and ye olde world charm. During the first half of the 20 th century Prague basked in the absinthe fuelled glory of being Central Europe 's cultural and architectural epicentre. Art Nouveau and Baroque inspired buildings are dotted throughout the city. Prices have undoubtedly risen since the Czech Republic joined the European Union in 2004. The heady days of being able to buy a pint of (proper) Budweiser for 10p are long gone, but Prague is still far easier on the wallet than most places in Western Europe , especially away from the main tourist traps. Booking a hotel room in advance is not necessary throughout much of the year, but is advised during the peak summer months and at Christmas time.

@Jodatu High speed should be just that - limited stop (which hs2 is), stations that provide onward connections (which hs2 does very poorly)

@Jodatu You wouldn't want 3 stations in Birmingham serving #HS2 - also, double deck, 400m long trains not compatible with classic track

Flightmapping.com Flightmapping.com

@Jodatu You could make that argument about any central station or hub airport. Reality is, origin + connection passengers justify both
