Despite being one of Europe's major freight hubs, Liege airport's main network of passenger carrying flights is aimed more at offering charter destinations to locals. The nearest alternative airport would be Maastricht Aachen (MST), although this too has limited choice, following Ryanair's cessation of their flights to Maastricht from Stansted. Although the seemingly obvious choice would be to find flights to Brussels instead, or to take advantage of Eurostar's free onward rail travel within Belgium offer, Liege is actually much closer to Cologne Bonn airport, which offers an increasing range of budget and scheduled flights from the UK. If you are planning on taking a cheap Ryanair flight, and then getting to Liege in a hire car; Frankfurt Hahn might be just as worthy of consideration as Brussels Charleroi, especially as the latter has a much wider choice of cheap flights from across Europe.
